The “Gipfelhaus“ is German, meaning the Summit House.

The home was built in the early 80’s by John Connely. John owned Banks Mountain and Bald Mountain that is directly adjacent to the Gipfelhaus. John built homes here in North Carolina and Florida. John was known as the caretaker of the mountain. Constantly hiking the forest to remove non-indigenous plant life and enjoying all that Mother Nature has to offer.

In 2003, the mountain was purchased by Peter Privitera of Saint Petersburg, Florida. Peter and his wife Sandy enjoy their home here on a regular basis. In 2019 we were fortunate enough to purchase the Gipfelhaus from the Privitera’s.

The local wildlife includes bear, wolves, deer, other small animals and wide variety of birds. 

Centrally located, you are only 20-30 minutes away from Hendersonville, Asheville, Bat Cave, Chimney Rock Park, Flat Rock Playhouse, and Lake Lure. Hiking, white water rafting, tubing, fishing, golf, restaurants, vineyards, local breweries, shopping, and many other activities are a stone throw away. Or you can enjoy the solitude and silence that the Gipfelhaus and Banks Mountain offer.

Be sure to listen for the wolves’ serenade around sunset from the third-floor balcony with your favorite libation.

* We loved our stay at the Gipfelhaus. It was comfortable, clean, quiet, and relaxing.  Mountain top privacy, yet close to restaurants, wineries and breweries.  Gorgeous sunrises and view.  We are looking forward to returning. A perfect getaway!

*The views are to die for from every level. Quiet, relaxing and well kept. Surrounded by nature yet 20 - 25 minutes to Hendersonville, Ashville Airport and Lake Lure. A wonderful experience!

* We enjoyed the Gipfelhaus and all that it offers.  The sunrise from the bedroom balcony is spectacular! Everything you need is here, including views with vista after vista. We can't wait to return to this little piece of heaven!

· Fire extinguisher under the kitchen sink.

· Please cover the grill after using and it is cooled down.

· Please cover the chairs on the side porch before leaving.

· Please bring in all chair cushions before leaving.

· Please make sure all windows and doors are closed and locked before leaving.

· Please make sure all lights are out before leaving.

· Recyclable items should be placed inside the gray trash can in the garage. 

· Garbage and waste should be bagged and go into the brown trash can with the lid securely fastened with bungy cord.

· Toilets should only receive toilet paper provided.

· Smoking is allowed on stone porches only. Please make sure all butts are fully extinguished.

· No Pets on the furniture! (Pet fees apply)

· Fireplace Use

o Does not have a flue.

o Make sure the doors are closed before retiring or leaving the property.

o Use the screen to cover the front when in use or close the doors.

o Unplug the circulation fan before going to bed, after use, or leaving.

o Paper for starting a fire is in the gray container in the garage.

· Free standing garage is not for use by guest.

· The Gipfelhaus has WIFI and Roku available.

· Amazon does deliver to the Gipfelhaus.

· Polaris 4x4 is NOT for use by guest.

· Local information, magazines, etc. are located between the two armchairs in the living room.

· No candles should be burned inside the house.

· Additional towels are located on the third floor in a linen closet at the top of the stairs and in the linen closet in the first-floor bathroom.

· Additional sheets, pillows and blankets are in the closets of each bedroom.

· WINTER USE ONLY:

o You may be required to open water valves located up and behind the side porch. They are located under an outdoor carpet should they need to be turned to the open position. PLEASE close these before leaving the property. 

· Games:

o On the first floor there are multiple games, puzzles and a telescope. These maybe located under the counter below the TV.
